Sporty Car Sales In America February 2015 YTD

2015 Jaguar F-Type Coupe R
Its abundantly clear: American muscle is American in America. Granted, the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger are assembled in Canada. But Americans love them so much more.

And they love them more in February 2015 than in February 2014. Camaro volume was up 3% in February. Challenger sales jumped 42%, a gain of 1561 units.

And the top-selling Ford Mustang, Americas 21st-best-selling car through the first two months of 2015, was up 32% in new sixth-gen form to 8454 units, 129% more than the number of Mustangs sold in February 2011.

Sports cars - or coupes with performance intent - that sell certainly share Detroit badges in common. Sales of small European coupes and roadsters in the Mercedes-Benz SLKs class slid 2% to just 1433 units in February, little better than one-sixth the Mustangs total and 1172 units fewer than the Chevrolet Corvette managed on its own.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly U.S. auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBCs Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank sports cars, coupes, and GTs any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.

^ BMW USA, not GoodCarBadCar, has chosen to combine sales figures of the 1-Series and 2-Series.
Clearly GoodCarBadCar is not suggesting that the cars in the two tables above are all direct competitors. Establishing categories among cars as unique as even the Audi TT and Porsche Boxster has never pleased a single reader, so cars have been lumped together so you can simply see how buyers looking for sports cars, roadsters, hot hatches, convertibles, GTs, and wanna-be sports cars spend their money. Greater categorization of cars would only lead to problems that automakers create by not isolating model-specific sales figures: we dont know how many M3s BMW has sold or how many Civics are Si models, for example. The numbers we do have are listed above. The BMW 6-Series has been removed from the premium list because we dont use this space as a showcase for sedans (unless automakers release data for high-end sporting models like the Lexus ISF, as Toyota Canada does) and the 6-Series lineup now relies heavily on a sedan variant. GoodCarBadCar is always open to hearing about the ways you would break down segments, so feel free to get in touch. You can always find the sales results for EVERY vehicle and form your own competitive sets by using the All Vehicle Rankings posts. Sales data for brands such as Aston Martin, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Rolls-Royce etc. are unfortunately not broken down by model. ANDC estimates say sales for those brands in the first two months of February were 206, 354, 126, 30, and 154, respectively. Tesla, unfortunately, doesnt release model-specific monthly U.S. sales data, but HybridCars.com estimates 1400 February Tesla sales, 2900 YTD.

Sporty Car Sales In America June 2014 YTD

2014 Volkswagen Golf GTI
In each of the last three months, the market for the Audi TT, BMW Z4, Jaguar F-Type, Mercedes-Benz SLK, and Porsches two entry-level sports cars has declined compared with the year-before period.

In June, the 17% decrease equalled a loss of 328 units. This wasnt the fault of the newest car, the F-Type, nor was it the Mercedes-Benz SLKs doing. Sales of the Audi TT predictably declined - therell be a new TT soon. BMW Z4 sales have decreased in 12 of the last 18 months.

The Porsche Boxster wasnt just down 20% in June; its down 23% this year. And second quarter Porsche Cayman volume decreased in comparison with a period in 2013 that saw the anticipated second-generation Cayman arrive.

Combined, the Porsche Boxster, Cayman, and 911 - the brands three remaining sports cars - accounted for 33.2% of the brands June sales, 39.5% year-to-date.

Likewise, sales of the Audi A5 and R8; Dodge Challenger and Viper; Ford Mustang; Honda CR-Z; Infiniti Q60; Jaguar XK; Mazda MX-5; Mercedes-Benz CL, SL, and SLS AMG; Nissan GT-R; Porsche 911; Subaru BRZ; Scion FR-S; Volkswagen Eos; and Volvo C70 were lower in June 2014 than in June 2013.

Subarus WRX and STi range outsold the FR-S and BRZ combined. Strong WRX/STi sales are nothing new - the Impreza-based sports sedans have posted improved sales in 20 consecutive months. But here cometh der neue Volkswagen Golf GTI, and lo and behold, the GTI outsold the FR-S/BRZ by 242 units in June, as well.

You can click any model name in the tables below to find historical monthly and yearly U.S. auto sales data. You can also select a make and model at GCBCs Sales Stats page. These tables are now sortable, so you can rank sports cars, roadsters, muscle cars, coupes, and wanna-be hot hatches any which way you like. Suggestions on how GCBC should break down segments can be passed on through the Contact page.
