Commercial Van Sales In Canada November 2014 YTD

2014 Nissan NV white
Canadas commercial van market has persevered through a time of great upheaval to report vastly improved sales through the first eleven months of 2014.

With the traditional best seller, Fords E-Series, being extinguished in favour of the Ford Transit, Fords market share in the full-size category fell from 35.7% in the first eleven months of 2013 to 25.7% in the same period one year later.

November was the first month in which the new Transit recorded a meaningful level of sales.

But with renewed strength from the GMC Savana, a continued surge from the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, and new product in the form of the Ram ProMaster, full-size commercial van sales in Canada are up 14% this year. They account for 80% of the vans sold so far this year; 73% in November.

The smaller trio of vans – soon to be joined by the Chevrolet City Express and Ram ProMaster City – are up just 7% year-to-date thanks to a slow start for the new Ford Transit Connect. But sales of the Ford, Nissan NV200, and Ram Cargo Van were up 56% in November.

Commercial Van Sales In Canada December 2014 And 2014 Year End

2015 Chevrolet Express white cargo van
GM Canada sold 11,341 commercial vans in 2014, a 9% year-over-year improvement that still saw the automakers market share in the category fall to 33.5% from 35.9% in 2013. GMs share of the pie was smaller, but fortunately, the pie was much larger. The best-selling
commercial van in Canada in each of 2014s final four months was a GM product.

Ford commercial van sales were divvied up towards the end of the year as the Transit began to take over from the E-Series. Ford sold 11,191 commercial vans in Canada in 2014, including 7667 copies of the outgoing, best-selling E-Series. That total was down 5%, and Fords market share fell to 33.1% from 40.4% in 2013.

Chrysler Group/FCA introduced their full-size Ram ProMaster late in 2013. By December 2014, the ProMaster was Canadas second-best-selling commercial van; the Ram Cargo Van ranked third. Throughout the course of the year, the two vans combined for 5239 sales, triple what the automaker accomplished one year earlier.

The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, which was once sold in an older form as by Dodge, was up 19% to a best-ever 4077 units in 2014, 15% of the full-size total. Nissans NV is oft-ignored, but the NV200 grabbed 19% of the small commercial van market thats usually controlled by the Ford Transit Connect.

Overall Ford commercial van sales jumped 30% to 13,936 in February 2015 as the loss of half the E-Series February 2014 total was more than offset by the Transits addition and the smaller Transit Connects 25% increase.

The Transit Connect led a fast-growing small commercial van category which improved by 59% in February; by 86% so far this year.

The Transits category, meanwhile, was let down by decreased General Motors sales. On the flip side, the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, Nissan NV, and Ram ProMaster all posted meaningful improvements.

Commercial Van Sales In Canada October 2014 YTD

As Fords clear-out of the E-Series van continues rather slowly, the Transit filled in with 71 October 2014 sales.

Transit Connect sales, meanwhile, were up 49% to 350 units, far more than double the combined figure of its two rivals, the Nissan NV200 and Ram Cargo Van.

The full-size sector is increasingly competitive, though still controlled by General Motors and Ford. Rams ProMaster earned 9.4% of Canadas full-size commercial van category in October 2014. The Nissan NV was at a disappointing 2.6%. But Mercedes-Benzs Sprinter, with 299 sales, grabbed 14.6% of the market.

That left 57% for General Motors, with the Chevrolet Express and top-selling GMC Savana and 16.3% for Ford.

Commercial Van Sales In America December 2014 YTD

2015 Ford Transit
In the United States, 2014s best-selling commercial van was the soon-to-expire Ford E-Series. During the month of December, specifically, just as it was in November, the best-selling commercial van in America was the E-Series replacement, Fords Transit.

Total Ford full-size commercial van sales jumped 23% in December 2014 as the Transit shot beyond 10,000 units for the first time. Yes, at this time last year the E-Series sold more often, but it didnt have a competing van alongside. Ford sold 10,030 Transits in December while also selling 5256 E-Series vans.

Ford also led the small commercial van category in 2014 with their Transit Connect. Sales in the category rose 29% to form 19% of total commercial van sales in the U.S. in 2014.

More good news for the commercial van sector in 2014: non-Ford sales shot up 29% in 2014. The fresh faces at Ford certainly helped the segment at the end of the year, but this category is booming across the board.
